Microneedling & PRP

What is microneedling with PRP?

Microneedling is a procedure that causes skin defects to heal, even if they’ve been there for years. In order to do this, a microneedling device creates tiny shallow needle holes in your skin’s surface in the areas you choose to target. The face, neck, and chest are all popular areas to treat.

SkinPen microneedling is available at Aesthetic Dermatology and Laser Surgery to give you long-lasting and significant complexion improvements. While your skin does most of the work to heal itself, you have the option to add a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) application to the treatment.

To heal the small, evenly spaced puncture wounds from SkinPen, your tissues begin to grow new structural collagen fibers. You lose some collagen with age, which is why your skin isn’t quite as firm as it was several years or decades ago.

How can PRP enhance my microneedling treatment?

PRP helps make your microneedling results more significant by introducing more of the cells and proteins that help your skin heal by itself, like growth factors and platelets. The growth factors and platelets already present in your skin drive the healing process, and applying more of them makes it faster and more effective.

In order to get PRP for your microneedling procedure, Dr. Breadon takes a blood sample from your vein. The blood sample contains plenty of growth factors and platelets to create the PRP, but Dr. Breadon must separate them from the red and white blood cells that are also in the sample. She does this by rapidly spinning the sample in a machine called a centrifuge.

The PRP reaches deep into your skin via the microchannels that SkinPen creates.

What are the benefits of microneedling and PRP?

Microneedling and PRP can heal scars and blemishes that you might have expected to remain indefinitely. Across your targeted treatment area, SkinPen microneedling with PRP can diminish or heal imperfections like:

  • Acne scars
  • Scars from surgery
  • Stretch marks
  • Sun damage
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Wrinkles and lines
  • Large pores

Since your body takes some time to grow new collagen, your skin’s improvements build-up for weeks or even months after your microneedling procedure. You may need a few treatments to get the best initial results.

If you accumulate more sun damage or scars on your skin, you can get microneedling and PRP treatments again at Aesthetic Dermatology and Laser Surgery.
